Job Brief:
Are you an experienced Commercial and Contracts Manager with a strong background in managing the commercial, financial, and contractual aspects of projects? Do you have a proven track record in the construction or engineering industry? If so, you are the one we are looking for! The ideal candidate will oversee contracts, ensure compliance, and lead a team within our client’s dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Management:
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, subcontracts, and agreements.
- Ensure compliance with contract terms, legal requirements, and company policies.
- Identify contractual risks and manage variations, extensions, and claims.
- Prepare and submit claims for time extensions, additional costs, or damages, ensuring timely resolution of disputes.
Commercial Management:
- Manage financial performance, ensuring profit margins are maintained and improved.
- Lead cost control measures by monitoring project costs, budgets, and forecasts.
- Develop and maintain financial reports, including cash flow projections.
- Oversee payment applications, invoicing, and ensure timely collection of payments.
Procurement and Subcontractor Management:
- Manage the procurement process and negotiate terms with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Oversee and approve subcontractor payments, monitor performance, and manage variations and claims.

Team Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage a team of Quantity Surveyors (QS), providing guidance and mentorship.
- Ensure effective monitoring of costs, budgets, and valuations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Delegate responsibilities and tasks effectively across the team to meet project goals and deadlines.
Risk and Compliance:
- Identify and assess commercial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including health and safety regulations.
- Client Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Act as the primary point of contact for commercial and contractual matters.
Required Qualification / Experience / Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law, or a related field; professional certifications (e.g., MRICS, MCIPS) highly desirable.
- 5+ years in a commercial or contracts management role, from the construction or engineering industry.
- Strong understanding of contract law and construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT, FIDIC).
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills; strong financial acumen. Proven experience working with subcontractors, managing contracts, and handling large-scale projects.
- Proven experience leading and managing a team of Quantity Surveyors.
- Proficiency in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
